Microbial Information: Mold Contamination | Sewage Contamination Information Last Updated: 11/16/2002 12:32 AM Microbial exposure problems exists where there are moisture troubles. Water intrusion can result from a leaking water pipe, flood, sewage back-up, roof leak, concrete slab leak, poorly installed irrigation system, fire (e.g. water from sprinklers and fire hoses), poor drainage, construction defect, and so on. At this time, moisture is the only practically controllable component of most microbial exposure problems. Though chemicals that clean microbiological contaminations exists, they are not always effective and can be more harmful than the contamination itself.
